Teacher CPD Guidelines

Welcome to Money Matters

Money Matters is a free online teaching and learning resource, easy to use and written to the Junior Cycle short course guidelines and specification template outlined by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA).  Money Matters aims to help students develop a healthy relationship with money, increase their financial capability and gain the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions on their personal finances when they start earning/managing money and appropriately into the future.

The course consists of four sections:

Section 1: Money Talks – what does it say about you?

Section 2: Follow the Money

Section 3: Taking Control of Your Money

Section 4: Keeping Yourself Covered

The Money Matters short course involves approximately 100 hours of student engagement. The sections are set out in lessons, providing approximately 50 hours of lesson content and activities.  You will utilise the remaining time with additional lessons, activities and project work.

As a teacher, you have access to the full set of course materials. You can use these materials in class, print out resources, or provide your students with downloadable access as required.  You are encouraged to draw on your knowledge of the learning needs of your student group to plan your lessons as well as additional work, homework and choosing appropriate project work.

You can find more information on the Money Matters short course within the short course specification.
