Timetabling
Money Matters is a 100 hour short course. If your school uses 40-minute class periods, 110 single classes will be required for the course over the three years of the Junior Cycle. This could equate to one class per week in First Year and two classes per week in Second and Third Years.
Money Matters does not require double class periods but you should use your own discretion and extend or shorten lessons according to your timetable and the needs of your students.
While the sections have been set out in a particular order, you can decide to implement Money Matters in whatever order suits your style of teaching. As a general guide, Section 1 could be taught in First Year and Sections 2 to 4 could be spread across Second and Third Year.
Typically, schools will offer two short course options and will structure the timetable accordingly. If you are providing a number of short course options in First Year, you can use Section 1 as a First Year personal finance taster module. You can also use the lesson and project activities to support Junior Cycle Business Studies or Home Economics integrated as appropriate to the syllabus requirements.
